Key Findings

What the Survey Reveals

Welfare-Compromising Behaviours

The majority of behaviour-resolution relates to welfare-compromising, life-threatening behaviours which had otherwise proven intractable to alternative, reward-based efforts.

Not a First Resort

Only 3% of respondents used electronic training aids as their first approach. The vast majority had attempted multiple reward-based methods before turning to electronic aids.

Combined Approach

84% of users also employ reward-based training methods alongside electronic aids, demonstrating that these tools complement rather than replace positive training.

Livestock Protection

73% of respondents use electronic training aids specifically to address livestock worrying — a welfare-compromising behaviour that poses a genuine risk to the lives of both dogs and farm animals.

“The majority of behaviour-resolution relates to welfare-compromising, life-threatening behaviours which had otherwise proven intractable to alternative, reward-based efforts.”

Why This Matters

Evidence-Based Policy

This survey represents the most comprehensive body of owner-user data on electronic training aid use ever assembled. It provides real-world evidence from the people who actually use these tools — responsible dog owners addressing serious behavioural issues.

The data has been shared with government ministers, Members of Parliament, media organisations, and key stakeholders to ensure that any legislation affecting dog training is informed by evidence rather than ideology.

We believe dog owners deserve a voice in the policy decisions that affect them. This survey ensures that voice is heard loud and clear.
